When exercising, monitoring your body weight can be a good method of assessing rapid changes in hydration. Follow the steps below to determine your fluid loss through sweat, and use the results to develop a hydration plan as part of your preparation for competitions or training.

Wear minimal clothing to minimise inaccuracy (preferably the same clothing before and after exercise) and towel down any perspiration before the second weigh in.

Step 1:
Weigh yourself before your sports activity.

Step 2:
Take note of the volume (ml) of fluids consumed while exercising.

Step 3:
Weigh yourself after exercising. (to account for weight lost through urine, weigh yourself before and after going to the toilet after exercise)
